Keith
Dewhurst
Don Quixote
From
the novel by Miguel de Cervantes. Keith Dewhurst’s version
of Don Quixote is an epic play in 23 scenes, which seeks to convey
for the theatre the variety, humour and tragic power of the most
remarkable novel ever written. First performed at the Olivier Theatre
of the Royal National Theatre, London, starring Paul Scofield and
Tony Haygarth. (Cast 17+m, 6+f, 1b)
“The
episodic grandeur of Cervantes has been gloriously rendered by Keith
Dewhurst into a splendid ensemble showcase with Paul Scofield cast
as the fantastic nostalgist of knight errantry. The occasion is
fit to set beside such different Olivier triumphs as Galileo, The
Oresteia and Guys and Dolls.”
